Dear God Tracker

God-tracking is walking in the counsel of the Holy Spirit, 24/7

The text came through on a Saturday afternoon: “Dudley, my aunt Beryl has been rushed to hospital with a stroke. Can you come pray for her? Thanks. Jane.” It was my day off but I made an effort to get out to the hospital. When I arrived there aunt Beryl’s family was assembled around her bed. I hardly knew Jane let alone aunt Beryl and her family, but I did what I could to comfort and counsel them and then prayed for Beryl.

On the way home I mulled over what had happened. “Dear Lord,” I prayed “sometimes I feel so inadequate. I did all I knew to do, but there’s just not enough of me to be there all the time for all those folk and the many others who need counsel, 24/7. Please take over.”

Like most people I also often find myself in need of comfort and counsel for various reasons ranging from feeling a little under the weather to, what should I do with the rest of my life? Sometimes I also wish I had a willing ear dedicated to listen and counsel me, 24/7. But this is impossible – or is it?

Jesus once said, “
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.” Jesus was promising the coming of the Holy Spirit who would be poured out on all flesh and this happened at the day of Pentecost shortly after Jesus had ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit is God Gods presence with us and he was sent to be our counselor, comforter and helper. In Psalm 139 we read, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” God as Holy Spirit is present everywhere all the time. This means that the Holy Spirit is perpetually with you and me as counselor and helper wherever we may find ourselves. You see, you and I do have a willing ear dedicated to listen to and counsel us, 24/7. More than this, our God is all-powerful and can richly meet our every need. Now thats good news!

Having the answers is not essential to living. What is essential is the sense of Gods presence during dark seasons of questioning.” Ravi Zacharias

I turn to you, my comforter, my helper and my teacher

Pray

“My Lord and God I know you are with me right now. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit. Lord, I need your counsel and your help to deal with all the situations I face in my life. Help me to know what to do and lead me by your word to do what is right. Take my pains and my disappointments and replace them with your comfort and joy. Lord, I commit all my needs to you and believe that you have the power and riches in Christ to meet every one of them. I turn to you, my comforter, my helper and my teacher, for support in my time of need. I know you will never leave nor forsake me. Thank you Lord. Amen.”
